Help and support
This is a translation provided for convenience. The French version is the authoritative text and prevails in the event of any discrepancy.
A question, a problem, a request about your data? It all starts here.

Frequently asked questions
The map is empty around me
Arpentix shows places that have a geolocated Wikipedia article. This is available all over the world, but coverage is very uneven: dense in France and in historic town centres, sparse elsewhere. An empty map therefore does not mean the app is not working.
Two things to try:
- zoom the map out: the search radius follows the zoom, up to five kilometres;
- open the Explore tab, type a city in the search field and tap “Go to” — the map opens on that city, without having to travel there.
If you are abroad, also check Settings › Preferences › Wikipedia article language: it determines which edition is queried, and each edition covers its own country far better.
Why does the app ask for my location?
To show the places near you, and to trigger proximity notifications if you enable them. It is used on your device, at the moment you use it. No history of your movements is sent to our servers.
Not to be confused with your logbook: when you mark a place as visited, it is the coordinates of the place that are recorded, and synchronised if you have an account. The details are in the privacy policy.
You can refuse location access: the app remains usable, but it can no longer show you what is around you. You then have to use the city search.
Why access to photos?
It is optional, and disabled until you enable it. The app reads the date and place recorded in your photos in order to attach them automatically to the corresponding visits in your logbook.
Your photos are neither sent, nor copied, nor uploaded. Only a local reference is kept on the device.
The audio guide does not start
The automatic guide is a separate setting: Settings › Discovery › Audio guide. It only starts as you approach a place, and only on sufficiently detailed entries: a short entry, or one without a photo, stays silent. This is deliberate — better to say nothing than to read out two lines.
If the setting is indeed on, check:
- the iPhone volume and silent mode;
- that location access is allowed — without it, the app does not know you are approaching.
To listen to an entry on demand, without waiting, use the Listen button on the place entry.
How do I revoke a shared logbook?
From your logbook, in the sharing panel. Revocation is immediate: the link stops working at once, including the page and the preview image.
One reservation, which applies to any shared link: we can do nothing about what may already have been copied or saved by someone who had access before revocation.
How do I delete my account?
Two routes, detailed just below: deleting your account.
Delete your account and your data
Arpentix can be used without an account. If you have never created one, none of this concerns you: no data has been transmitted to us, and uninstalling the app erases everything that was on your device.
From the application
Settings › Account › Delete my account. A double confirmation is requested, then deletion is immediate and irreversible.
By e-mail
If you no longer have the application, or no longer have access to your account, write to contact@arpentix.app from the address associated with your account, stating that this is a deletion request.
Writing from that address is what allows us to verify that the request really comes from you. If you signed up with “Sign in with Apple” and the hide-my-address option, use the relay address at privaterelay.appleid.com that was assigned to you.
The request is processed within a maximum of one month, in accordance with the GDPR — in practice much faster. You receive a confirmation once the deletion has been carried out.
What is deleted
- Your account — the e-mail address and the link with Apple or Google.
- Your synchronised visits and routes, as well as your preferences saved on the server side.
- Your sharing links, which stop working.
- The logbook saved on the device, if the deletion is carried out from the application.
Your photos are not affected: they have never left your device. They remain in your photo library, where you alone control them.
A deletion requested by e-mail covers the data on our servers. What is on your device goes with the uninstallation of the app.
Before deleting, you can retrieve your logbook in JSON format: Settings › Account › Export my data. After deletion, nothing can be recovered.
